The Trunk 'n' Funk event took its theme from two exhibitions that were on view at the museum: Sanford Biggers's hip-hop-influenced MATRIX installation, and an exhibit of art by elephants by Russian conceptual artists Komar and Melamid.
From 7:30 p.m. until midnight more than 1,000 Cal students visited the museum to see performances by student bands, watch a break-dancing demonstration, and take student-led tours of the exhibitions. During the evening party guests also helped complete a giant collage that was hung over the outdoor dance floor, and enjoyed free food and drink at the museum cafe while watching 1960s bikini movies projected onto the side of the building.
