
The BAM/PFA Student Committee put the wick back in wicked for a special screening of Bud Townsend's kitschy mid-sixties extravaganza Nightmare in Wax. The screening was part of the popular PFA film series Exploit-O-Scope, celebrating cheap promotional gimmicks from films past. Nightmare in Wax didn't come with a gimmick, but it sure could have used one, so the Student Committee concocted its own bit of homicidal hoopla. The PFA Theater overflowed with dry ice, and eye-patches were the latest style. Eroll, a dashing mannequin dressed in plaid boxers and a slick lab coat, got in on the trend. 163 audience members groaned and guffawed as they watched a vengeful ex–makeup artist turn his enemies into wax. Some of them even reported sleep disturbances later that night....
