Who are you? Multi Culti, the second student committee event planned in conjunction with One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now, aimed at providing a more personal and interactive experience with the exhibit.
On November 16th, Thai iced tea, rice snacks, lychee jelly cups, and the sounds of DJ Shy Money provided a relaxing atmosphere both in the galleries and in the main lobby. While discussing the exhibition with One Way or Another artists Ala Ebtekar and Mike Arcega, students also enjoyed dance performances by TruElement, Chinese Contemporary Dance, and student breakdancers.
While some students covered a giant map of the world with stickers, marking the birth place of their parents, grandparents, and themselves, others watched the progress of the “Fix Your Kicks” competition: a chance for ten students to express themselves using a blank sneaker as their canvas. The top three designers walked away with custom designed T-shirts by Filthy Dripped.
Overall, Multi Culti was a unique opportunity for students to interact and engage with art, whether it be by connecting with artists or experiencing the talents of their peers.
