Students were all smiles at the second annual BAM/PFA Fall Arts Fest. A wide variety of student groups exhibited their talents at the daylong event, which bridged the gap between visual and performing arts. Not only were there sculptural installations reconstructing the space in the museum's Sculpture Garden, but brilliant drawings and prints were displayed in a student-curated show of student artwork. Graduate students from the architecture department screened experimental works in the Museum Theater as students battled in the Chalk Art Competition along the garden pathways. Hands-on workshops engaged enthusiastic festival goers in a variety of sculptural media.

In the galleries and outdoor terraces, performances by campus groups mesmerized audiences. Cal Wushu demonstrated martial arts, and China Dance Theater, Danceworx, Israeli Dance, and Satrang danced around the globe. Student singer-songwriters Shaden Tavakoli and Chris Hoke enchanted listeners, and Misha Leybovich later crooned the sleeper-hit BAM/PFA Jingle to wide acclaim. Barestage and Cal Slam used spoken word to activate the gallery space in two very different ways—Barestage performed a melange of Shakespearean monologues while Cal Slam hosted a passionate poetry slam.

Traditional Irish music and the UC Jazz Ensemble delighted spectators as they refreshed themselves at Cafe Muse; simultaneously, a thunderous performance by EGO Korean Drumming filled the galleries and accompanied the rainstorm outside as the sun set on Berkeley and the 2003 Fall Arts Fest.

The BAM/PFA Fall Arts Fest was presented by the BAM/PFA Student Committee and UC Berkeley Athletic and Recreational Sports with support from ASUC Superb and UC Berkeley's Consortium for the Arts
