Enrique Chagoya Preview Party   9-11pm

Each year the Student Committee presents several student-only events at the museum—more intimate events such as gallery openings, career seminars, and film screenings, and larger events such as the Fall Arts Fest, a daylong celebration of student artists, musicians, and performers at Cal. The Student Committee also hosts an evening party each spring that combines art, film, performances, and music.

Organized by students for students, these events aim to expose new student audiences to BAM/PFA's programs and resources. Each event takes as its starting point a current exhibition or film series at the museum and PFA, and from there expands into a multimedia, multidisciplinary event happening in the museum galleries, outside in the sculptural garden, and on the terraces.

From the Aztec pyramids of Teotihuacan to Mickey Mouse, Cal Students will engage with Enrique Chagoya’s works which comment on the relationship between Mexico and the United States. Party-goers will also indulge in chocolate fountains, sparkling cider, rhythmic music, dancing, and of course, the Student Committee’s signature polaroid photo station.

Three student DJ’s will remix the soundtrack to 60’s film Simon of the Desert. Directed by Luis Buñuel, Simon of the Desert is a clever satire about St. Simon Stylites who repeatedly refuses the temptation of the devil. The devil appears in many guises, some comical and playful, while others are outright terrifying. Join us after the film for refreshments, music, and a smashing after party.
