California Remix’d was held on April 20, 2006 from 7:30pm to midnight in conjunction with Dreaming California, an exhibition that explored the California dream through the eyes of three important California photographers: Bill Owens, Larry Sultan, and Ruth Marion-Baruch. Spanning throughout the entire Berkeley Art Museum, the large, California-themed, multi-media event was aimed exclusively at Cal students and featured live music by the band Two Seconds, dance performances, various competitions, and many interactive games and activities for students, such as a Moon Bounce and photobooth.
With the goal of increasing student awareness and participation in the arts, Cal students came to have first-hand experience and direct engagement with the artwork and the museum itself. California Remix'd had as its theme the iconic places, lifestyles, and subcultures that characterize California, which make the state a unique destination for a diverse national and international audience; in other words, an audience a much like the Cal student community.
